Working through the details, together

A concrete decision from Timetrack shows how I make technical tradeoffs understandable, check the result, and keep you involved in a build.

Something concrete to talk through

When we work together, I want you to be able to question a recommendation without needing to read the code first. A small example from Timetrack shows what that conversation can be about: should a short manual entry disappear from a summary just because automated sessions ran longer?

Timetrack turns recorded AI sessions and manual entries into reports. A check in the project puts a fifteen-minute manual entry beside ten long agent sessions and makes sure all eleven entries remain available to the summary. Duration alone doesn't tell us which work matters to the reader.

Connect the decision to a check

A repeatable test checks that the short manual entry stays in the summary's starting data. It checks behavior a person would notice: whether their work remains visible as the records move through the system.

This is the kind of evidence we can review together: what should happen, a concrete example, and a check that would catch the wrong result. You can change your mind about the requirement while the consequences are still easy to discuss.

Be clear about where AI fits

I used AI assistance while building Timetrack, including how session records are organized and updated. I remain responsible for deciding which information belongs in a report and checking that it survives each step.

When we work on your app, we can use AI to explore and implement a change while keeping those decisions understandable. I'll explain the proposed behavior and what we've checked. If you want to use the tools yourself, we can work through the same task together.

Bring the part you're unsure about

It might be a number that doesn't look right, a user flow that feels awkward, or a feature you're not sure you need. We can start there, make the choices concrete, and work out the next useful step. No finished specification required.
